Environmental - Human Health

Again, one of concerns is the ability to mix with water. With our typical hydrocarbon fuels, which float on water, we can use pillows, pads, booms and vacuum systems to remove fuel from the surface of water.
Ethanol or the ethanol portion of blends will mix with water creating an "extraction problem". Such spills into lakes, streams and creeks may cause serious damage to aquatic life or aquatic life may cease to exist.

Spills of any type of fuel, hydrocarbon or polar solvent, may cause great environmental harm.

We do not have the ability to vacuum out the entire river during an Ethanol spill.

Proper fire control may limit further damage to vessels and containers which could prevent a larger spill.

Treat Ethanol spills seriously...... the "Environmentally Friendly" label should not relax your concern.

"Pure or highly concentrated ethanol (E-85) may permanently damage living tissue on contact.

Exposure to ethanol vapors in high concentrations or for prolonged periods is harmful to human health.

In concentrations greater than 50 percent, ethanol can cause local dehydration and lesions.

Absorption, which occurs swiftly from the gastrointestinal tract, causes euphoria, with subsequent dizziness, inebriation, paralysis, diminished reflex, excitability, cyanosis, narcosis and respiratory paralysis."

Remember... "Environmentally friendly"
is a marketing strategy,
not a safety strategy!
