Dictionary Definition of Auxiliary:
1. giving support: acting to support or supplement a group of people

The Auxiliary at the Swannanoa Fire Department can serve as a vital role during emergency operations.
During short duration incidents Firefighters may quickly become exhausted and overheated. While the Firefighters may use bottled water stored and iced down on apparatus, the supply will quickly be depleted. The auxiliary may bring a larger supply of drinks to the scene and assist with firefighter rehabilitation.
Other incidents could last for hours or even days. Aside from supplying drinks for continual consumption, members of the auxiliary arrange logistics for meals to keep the Firefighters going.
Other events: The auxiliary also supports the department during extended training exercises and special events.
