Airpack Basketball
Airpack basketball has been an enjoyable event that we do every 6 months to a year. Through this event, Firefighters gain experience in PPE donning drills, ICS (by way the event is organized), Team building skills, limitations of agility in Firefighter's gear and an assessment of physical conditioning.
Some issues for setting up and running the event......
1. Divide into two teams
2. Have each team set their gear in front of them and when the whistle blows, they quickly don the gear.
3. Whichever team reports to the referee first with fully prepared
PPE breathing air, gets the ball first
or.......
When first team reports to referee fully ready, jumpball time even if the other team only has 3 ready.
4. Play for a set amount of time (10 minutes or more)
5. When a persons low pressure alarm sounds, they're out of the game.
6. There is a safety issue of the nature of competition, put in place rules for fouling, like having to take a jog around the station if a foul is committed
7. Since most gear is the same type and helmets are multiple colors, Use traffic control vests to differentiate teams
